Motivation

Lobbyists have tremendous impact on the legislative process. In 2016, over 3 billion dollars was spent on lobbying by special interests. Individual citizens have no effective way to participate in this process. The existing mechanisms for political participation fall short for a number of reasons.

Not Public
The number of calls, letters and faxes that a representative receives are not public which makes them easily ignored.
No Repercussions
If a representative ignores your calls, letters and faxes, there are no immediate consequences.
Not Timely
Campaign donations usually only happen during campaign season and important legislation is discussed all the time.
Not Directed
Campaign donations are not tied to issues or specific pieces of legislation.
